Liberty Bank receives Record Journal Readers Choice Award

Liberty Bank, Connecticut’s oldest bank and a chartered community bank headquartered in Middletown, was named the 2018 Best Bank in Connecticut at the Record Journal’s Readers’ Choice Awards Celebration held earlier this month at the Aqua Turf in Southington.

The Readers’ Choice Awards are voted on annually by community members in Meriden, Wallingford, Southington, Berlin, Cheshire, North Haven, Durham, Middlefield and Plainville. “Liberty Bank is once again honored and humbled to receive this award, stated Chandler J. Howard, President and CEO. “It speaks volumes about our dedication to deliver outstanding customer experiences, offer superior products and services, and constantly give back to the communities within our footprint.”

To determine the Readers’ Choice winners, there are two rounds of voting – a Nomination Round and a Voting Round. The Nomination Round is a blank ballot. People go online and enter their nominations for the "best business" in 187 categories. After several weeks of voting, their nominations are narrowed down to the top five businesses in each category. For the final voting round, community members vote on the top five businesses in each category. The final three are defined as winners with one first place winner per category and two finalists. Liberty Bank is the first place winner in the Best Financial Institution category.

“These awards are truly our community’s way of recognizing each and every winner as the best of the best in their company categories,” said Record-Journal Media Consultant and Promotions Leader Jaime Lynn Gianini. This year, the Record Journal received a total of 210,000 votes – five times more than 2017 when they generated only 43,000 votes. This was the 16th annual Readers’ Choice Awards and first-ever awards dinner and celebration. Liberty Bank was also a Premium sponsor of the event.

Established in 1825, Liberty Bank is Connecticut’s oldest bank, with more than $4.8 billion in assets and 55 banking offices throughout the central, eastern, western and shoreline areas of the state. As a full-service financial institution, Liberty offers consumer and commercial banking, home mortgages, insurance, and investment services. Named as a 2018 ‘Best Bank in America’ by Forbes and “Top Workplace” by the Hartford Courant for seven consecutive years, Liberty maintains a longstanding commitment to superior personal service and unparalleled community involvement.
