What is Apple Pay and how does it work?
Apple Pay is easy to use and works with the devices you use every day. It uses tokenization, assigning an encrypted transaction-specific security code to each debit and credit card, for online and mobile payments.
The code has no value if stolen or intercepted by an unauthorized party. It is used to transmit preferred payment methods with the app or the store's Near Field Communication terminal, which is technology that permits a smartphone or other mobile device to safely communicate with a payment terminal in very close proximity at checkout.
Why use Apple Pay?
Apple Pay adds an extra layer of convenience and security. Card details are never shared or stored by Apple when you use Apple Pay, making payments with your iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, and Mac a safe, private way to pay. Your card numbers are also never stored on devices or servers, and are never shared with wholesalers. The security codes assigned to your Apple Pay account takes the place of actual card numbers.
If your device is lost or stolen, use Find My iPhone/iPad from another Apple device with the same Apple ID/login to put your device in Lost Mode. This locks the phone and prevents others from using things like Apple Pay or Wallet data. Alternatively, you can use Find My iPhone to completely wipe your iPhone clean.
