Liberty Bank Celebrates Its 200th Anniversary by Donating $200,000 to Make-A-Wish Connecticut®

To help celebrate its 200th anniversary, Liberty Bank is teaming up with Make-A-Wish Connecticut to help fulfill the wishes of local children with critical illnesses. A $200,000 grant from Liberty Bank Foundation will allow multiple wishes to come true.

In total, Liberty Bank Foundation will give $250,000 this year to support Make-A-Wish in its region. In addition to its donation to Make-A-Wish Connecticut, Liberty Bank Foundation will also make a $50,000 donation to Make-A-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

“Liberty Bank’s brand promise is ‘Be Community Kind,’” said President and CEO David W. Glidden. “As our bank – the fifth oldest bank in the country – recognizes this milestone anniversary, we are celebrating by giving back to our community, and one way we are doing so is by supporting Make-A-Wish.”

The $200,000 grant to Make-A-Wish Connecticut will support a Summer of Wishes, a chance for local children to have a life-changing wish granted. Make-A-Wish is currently working to fulfill the wishes of 300 Connecticut children, and Liberty’s financial support will help grant many of those wishes.

Glidden officially presented a check to Make-A-Wish Connecticut at a Hartford Yard Goats game at Dunkin’ Park in Hartford on April 29 – World Wish Day.

“We are proud to partner with Make-A-Wish,” Glidden said. “Liberty Bank has a long history of supporting the community through volunteerism and by awarding grants to amazing organizations like Make-A-Wish. We know that by working together we can make a difference. We want to give Make-A-Wish children hope, along with a reason to smile, laugh and enjoy the moment.”

“Make-A-Wish Connecticut relies on the incredible support of our community to bring transformative wishes to children across the state,” said Pam Keough, president and CEO of Make-A-Wish Connecticut. “We are deeply grateful for Liberty Bank’s partnership and outstanding generosity. Thanks to their support, we’re able to create even more moments of hope and joy for the children and families we serve.”

Since it was chartered in 1825, Liberty Bank has continued to grow, while also giving back to the community. Since its inception in 1997, Liberty Bank Foundation has awarded more than $21 million in grants to nonprofit organizations throughout the bank’s market area. One hundred percent of the bank’s more than 800 teammates volunteered their time in 2024.

In addition to the $250,000 in donations to Make-A-Wish, Liberty Bank Foundation will also donate $1,825 (more than $90,000 in total) to nonprofits in the 54 communities where it has branches, and it will partner with Hands on Hartford to provide more than 200 weekend meal kits for children in need. Working with the Max Restaurant Group, Liberty Bank will donate 200 Thanksgiving Dinner boxes to area families in need, and it will build 200 bikes that will be donated to at the Boys & Girls Club of Hartford. Teammates have also assembled more than 200 Birthday Boxes to be delivered to local pantries across Liberty’s footprint so that families have everything they need to enjoy their own birthday celebrations at home.
