From the Bank to the Lake: Armand Fortier Finds Ways to Help Others

As a Boy Scout, Armand Fortier learned to help others at a young age. Since, volunteerism has been a large part of his life – something he doesn’t think twice about. It is second nature. Unassuming, he pitches in wherever and whenever he can.

“I think it’s about knowing that you did some good,” Armand said recently. “I don’t know why more people don’t do it.”

From Toys for Tots to taking disabled veterans on fishing trips, the Enterprise Applications Administrator makes an impact. He came to Liberty Bank in 2022 and now realizes the Bank and its culture is a better fit than he could have ever imagined. He fully embraces the Bank’s brand promise, to “Be Community Kind,” and appreciates being part of an organization that is focused on helping others.

“I think it just worked out for the best,” Armand said.

Growing up in Waterbury, Armand’s family experienced financial hardship, and it made him better understand the struggles of others and the importance of any assistance offered. Acts of kindness matter, he said.

Today, Armand is the difference-maker for so many families. He’s the one now in a position to give.

For the past 22 years, Armand has helped organize an annual Toys for Tots Drive through the Mohawk Valley Bassmasters, a bass fishing club. Each year, the club, of which he is a member, collects toys in boats positioned at the entrances of Walmart in Wallingford. The donations are ultimately distributed to those who need a little help during the holidays.

When Armand came to Liberty, he also took on the added responsibility of organizing the Bank’s Toys for Tots Drive, and he’s expanded the effort. Many teammates may know him as “the grinch.” He’s worn a grinch costume to work to encourage donations.  

In addition to his work with Toys for Tots, Armand volunteers as a boat captain for Gaylord Sports Association’s disabled military veteran fishing tournaments. He takes veterans around Candlewood Lake and helps them fish. For some, it’s their first experience on a boat!

Armand is also a member of several Liberty Bank committees, including the Military & Veteran Committee. Although not a veteran, Armand is a proud supporter of those who have served.

And if that does not keep him busy enough, Armand founded the Bank’s Cornhole League in 2023.

“I love seeing everyone have a good time,” Armand said. “I love seeing someone with a smile because I helped them.”

Armand’s advice if you are considering a new volunteer opportunity: Don’t be shy, and don’t worry about whether you know what you are doing. “That feeling of satisfaction outweighs the courage you need to do it,” he said.
